CLYDE PLACES FOURTH AT TINORA INVITE WITH STRONG INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES
TINORA — The Clyde girls wrestling team turned in a strong showing at the Tinora Invite, finishing fourth out of 20 teams with 89 points. Several Clyde wrestlers earned podium finishes, led by a championship performance from Mallory Meggitt and multiple top-four placings across the lineup.
At 170 pounds, Caroline Purdham battled through a competitive bracket to earn a fourth-place finish. Purdham opened the tournament with a fall over Brynlee Poorman of Wauseon before dropping a narrow 1-0 decision to Martina Ebaugh Ortega of Napoleon. She rebounded with a quick pin of Olivia Zeedyk from Fairview in just 1:05, but her run concluded with a loss by fall to Paige Gamby of Tinora.
Samantha Young represented Clyde at 140 pounds and also placed fourth. Young picked up three victories on the day, pinning Violet Dirr of Tinora, Bryanna Taylor of Defiance, and earning a tech fall win over Rose Baxter of Ada. She was challenged by tough opponents from St. Johns and Antwerp, which ultimately kept her just off the podium’s top spots.
At 130 pounds, Mallory Meggitt delivered one of Clyde’s standout performances of the tournament, claiming first place. Meggitt defeated Ava Steffel of Tinora by a 6-3 decision, followed with a dominant 14-1 major decision over Lily Hunt of Pike-Delta-York, and capped her run with a fall against Tayler Fulk of Bryan to secure the title.
Meredith Greenslade added another podium finish for Clyde at 125 pounds, taking third place. Greenslade recorded three technical fall victories over Halle Elson of Wauseon, Layla Gale of Edgerton, and Payton Geiner of Bryan, showing consistent control throughout the tournament. Her only setback came in a loss by fall to Isabela Jordan of Defiance.
At 115 pounds, Addison Townsley earned a fourth-place finish. Townsley collected two wins by fall, including a quick 42-second pin of Chloe Hazelton of Edgerton and a decision win over Azlyn Pagan of Tinora, while also gaining valuable experience against strong competition from Middletown and Tinora.
With a balanced team effort and multiple wrestlers placing, Clyde’s fourth-place finish and 89 points marked a successful day at the Tinora Invite and showed the team’s depth as the season continues.
