PURDHAM TAKES THIRD AS CLYDE FINISHES 41ST AT FINDLAY F.I.G.H.T. TOURNAMENT
FINDLAY — The Clyde girls wrestling team faced a large and competitive field at the Findlay F.I.G.H.T. tournament held at the University of Findlay’s Malcolm Center, with Caroline Purdham highlighting the weekend by earning a third-place finish at 190 pounds.
Purdham put together an impressive run. She opened her tournament with a 3-0 decision over Emma Bolton of Highland (Marengo) and followed with a quick 1:13 fall against Brianne Belleville of Lowell. After a loss to Sophia Harris of Benjamin Logan, Purdham regrouped and finished strong, pinning Peyton Stultz of Rutherford B. Hayes at 4:08 and Claire Robertson of Oak Hills at 4:39. Earlier in the bracket, she also earned a tight 4-1 decision over Kira Maassen of Elyria, securing third place overall.
Samantha Young gained valuable experience against a tough field. Young recorded a fall over Olivia Taylor of Clay High School in 2:54, while also facing opponents from Medina Highland and Whiteland Community.
Mallory Meggitt showed resilience throughout the tournament. After early losses to Isabella Yuhasz of DeWitt and Anna Buurma of Fowlerville, Meggitt bounced back with two wins by fall, defeating Aleria Salaz of Defiance at 6:55 and Andi Gambal of Rutherford B. Hayes at 3:05.
As a team, Clyde finished 41st out of 75 teams with a total of 36 points. The tournament provided valuable competition against top programs from across the region, and Purdham’s podium finish served as a highlight as the team continues its season.
