CLYDE GREEN SPRINGS SCHOOLS HONORS THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED
Flier Nation has endured a difficult stretch in recent weeks.
We have said goodbye to some of our most devoted supporters—individuals whose presence, passion, and commitment helped shape who we are. While we may unintentionally miss others, the impact of these community members is deeply felt across Flier Nation.
Our wrestling community experienced tremendous loss with the passing of Ed Thurn, Jr., and Don Taylor. These two men were pillars of our wrestling and biddy programs. Their leadership and dedication established a foundation that influenced generations of young athletes.
Our cheering section mourns the loss of Elidia Webb, former cheerleading coach and steadfast Flier fan. Whether cheering on her grandchildren or supporting every young Flier in the gym, her spirit and enthusiasm lifted those around her and will be dearly missed.
We also remember Frank Roope, former coach and lifelong Flier. Frank coached track for many years, and even in retirement, he never stopped giving back—assisting with projects like the installation of the LED lights on the veteran plane and supporting countless efforts at the stadium.
This past weekend, we said goodbye to Tom Mathers, former teacher, mentor, and passionate supporter of Clyde High School athletics. Through his years as an educator and assistant athletic director, Tom touched the lives of countless students with his steady guidance and unwavering commitment.
Most recently, and tragically, we lost Dick Berger. Mr. Berger’s kindness knew no bounds—from bringing Tampico juice and hot dogs to our teams for years, to offering encouragement, laughter, and mentorship to both kids and coaches. His generosity and joy left an imprint that will not be forgotten.
The legacy of these remarkable individuals will continue to live on—in the athletes they inspired, the programs they strengthened, and the community they helped build. Their impact on Flier Nation will endure for years to come.
